Baghouses

Fabric filter dust collectors — reverse-air, reverse-pulse and high-temperature designs, engineered against your dust load, gas chemistry and capture target.

Baghouses

When a baghouse is the right tool

Baghouses are the workhorse for dry particulate capture where outlet emissions need to be tight, gas temperature is below the bag’s media limit, and the dust isn’t sticky or condensable. Choose by dust load, temperature, available utilities (compressed air, footprint) and explosion risk.

Engineering envelope

  • Flow — 1,000 to 200,000+ m3/h
  • Outlet PM — <10 mg/Nm3 achievable
  • Temperature — ambient to 260°C continuous (fibreglass/PTFE media)
  • Filter area — 50 to 5,000+ m2
  • A/C ratio — 0.2 to 3.5 m/min depending on duty
  • Cleaning — pulse-jet (compressed air) or reverse-air, on-demand or timer
  • Explosion protection — NFPA 68/69, ATEX where required, anti-static media, vent panels
  • Materials — carbon steel painted, 304/316, alloyed shells for halide duty
  • Standards — AS/NZS 5131, AS/NZS 1554.6, ASME IX where required

Reverse Air Baghouses

Reverse air cleaning uses axial or centrifugal fans to back-flush the bags — gentler than pulse-jet impulse, well-suited to long-life, low-pressure-drop duty. Best where compressed air is scarce or expensive, and bag life matters more than footprint.

  • Low maintenance, low energy
  • No compressed-air infrastructure required
  • Wide media compatibility (woven cotton, glass, polyester)
  • Lower filtration velocity — larger physical footprint vs pulse-jet
  • Continuous off-line cleaning

Reverse Pulse Jet Baghouses

Our PA series (150 mm × 4000 mm bag) and PB series (120 mm × 3000 mm bag) reverse-pulse baghouses cover the broadest envelope of industrial duty — from grain handling to glass-furnace offgas. Compressed-air pulse cleaning maintains bag flux on-demand based on differential pressure, not on a fixed timer.

  • Air-to-cloth ratio 0.2–3.5 m/min, tuned to inlet dust load
  • Filter media matched to duty: polyester (140°C), Aramid/Nomex (200°C), P84/polyimide (240°C), fibreglass + PTFE membrane (up to 260°C)
  • Pyramid or trough hopper, integrated venturi cages (split or single-piece)
  • Dedicated inlet chamber for even gas distribution, clean-side access
  • Anti-static media + NFPA-rated explosion venting where dust is combustible

Delivered projects:

  • Boto Gold (Senegal) via Lycopodium — reverse-pulse baghouse above the conveyor, dust returns straight into ore flow, no scrubber required downstream
  • Kiaka Gold (Burkina Faso) via Lycopodium — PA110 + 75 kW fan + rotary valve, plus a 5.5 kW crushed-pebble conveyor dust collector
  • GrainCorp (Dunolly, AU) — PA120 × 4000, 25,000 m3/h, anti-static polyester bags, NFPA-vented, Taymac FB710 with VSD, 300 mm rotary airlock
  • CSR Ingleburn (NSW, AU) — PA192 glass-furnace baghouse, 21,000 Nm3/h at 200°C, 192 bags / 362 m2 cloth (A/C 0.97 m/min), thermocouple-activated fire isolation
  • Narellan Pools (Picton, NSW, AU) — 15 filter boxes + 2 × FB1700 fans (75 kW each), 48 m3/s, 1.4 m galvanised stack, styrene capture from gel-coat production
  • Soil processing plant (AU) — replacement baghouse with walk-in clean-air plenum, insulated body, hopper heaters, zinc-free internal coating to client spec

High Temperature Baghouses

Where the process gas exceeds polyester’s ~140°C ceiling, baghouse selection becomes a media + gas-conditioning problem. We design the dust collector and the cooling strategy together — passive ambient dilution, evaporative quench, or air-to-air pre-cooling — sized against worst-case excursion.

  • Continuous duty up to ~260°C with woven fibreglass or PTFE-membrane media
  • High-temperature rotary valve, insulated body, heated hoppers
  • Broken-bag detector on the clean side for continuous integrity monitoring
  • Materials matched to gas chemistry — mild steel, 304/316, or alloyed for halide-bearing duty

Delivered projects:

  • CSR Ingleburn glass furnace (NSW) — PA192 at 200°C continuous duty, high-temp internals
  • Uranium calciner offgas (Africa, concept) — 800°C process gas conditioned to 200°C via dedicated induced-draft ambient dilution, with broken-bag detector

Frequently asked questions

How clean an outlet can a baghouse achieve?
Outlet PM below 10 mg/Nm3 on dry filterable dust.
Reverse-pulse vs reverse-air?
Pulse-jet is compact and cleans on-line; reverse-air is gentler on bags for longer life. We select to the duty.
Combustible dust?
Designed with NFPA/ATEX explosion protection — venting, suppression and isolation as the dust hazard requires; hydrogen/steam duties are contained as pressure vessels.
Baghouse vs ESP vs cyclone?
Baghouse for dry filterable dust; dry ESP for very high flow or temperature; cyclone as a coarse pre-cleaner ahead of them.
