Fowlerex was contracted by Sedgman to supply a gas scrubbing system for the Queensland Resources Common User Facility (QRCUF). The QRCUF is a strategic initiative led by the Queensland Government, designed to support pilot and demonstration scale trials of critical minerals and rare earth element processing technologies.
The facility is intended to accelerate the commercialisation of new processing methods, promote investment in advanced mineral manufacturing, enable the growth of local supply chains, and support the long-term sustainability of Queensland’s resources sector. The QRCUF is located at the Cleveland Bay Industrial Park, approximately 6.5 km south of Townsville city centre.
Fowlerex’s scope of supply included 2 gas scrubbers, 1 venturi scrubber, 1 carbon filter (all stainless steel) and 3 stainless steel fans, designed to handle a rotating duty across the QRCUF’s mineral processing trials — ammonia, SO2, H2SO4 acid mist and VOCs. The venturi captures acid mist and particulate, the packed beds provide acid-wash (NH3) and caustic (SO2) absorption, and the carbon filter polishes residual VOCs.
The scrubber and fans are currently being fabricated by Taurus Engineering, a sister company, in accordance with Fowlerex’s specifications and quality standards. Delivery to site is planned for October, coordinated with the broader project schedule.
While Fowlerex is not responsible for installation or commissioning, the system is engineered and being supplied to integrate effectively within the overall plant design, supporting compliance with environmental performance expectations.
This project forms part of Fowlerex’s involvement in supporting resource sector pilot facilities, with a focus on equipment supply and coordinated delivery of air pollution control systems.
Project Update 20.05.2026
Commissioning activities associated with Fowlerex’s scope of supply have now been completed on site.
The project continues to progress through the remaining stages of delivery and site activities.
